October is anti-bullying awareness month and I am thankful for the chance to shed some light on this very real issue that affects us and our children every single day!  This is a sensitive subject for me as recently my daughter became a target/victim to bullying. I know first hand the frustration and heartache that comes when someone directs their unkind words (spreads rumors/lies) & actions towards someone you love.  At first, we didn’t take the bullying very seriously, shrugging it off thinking maybe if we didn’t say anything it might just go away, after all this was a girl my daughter had to interact with on a daily basis as she was part of her team.  We didn’t want to rock the boat.  But as the situation got worse we realized it wasn’t going to stop unless we did something about it.  So we decided to take action…reporting it to the task force dedicated to bullying at her school.  We learned that this taskforce is ready and waiting to help + try to do whatever it takes to stop the problem or issue.

So today it is my hope to not only raise awareness to stop bullying but to help prevent it by starting a movement FOCUSED ON more kindness to others. As it all starts with you and me.  It reminds me of a primary song my kids and I often sing called Kindness begins with me….listen to it here   This song also inspired the name for our new movement/challenge…..

We invite each you to join us in the #kindnessbeginswithme challenge, start by sharing our hashtag via social media + feel free to repost the image below as well as share the images we post via instagram using our hashtag above.  Let’s all devote this month to performing as many acts of kindness as possible.  kindness-begins-with-me....We also really encourage Parents and Kids to speak up and take action when any type of bullying happens.  PLEASE DON’T IGNORE IT!

I have since learned that there are 4 types of bullying…Physical Bullying, Verbal Bullying, Relational Bullying and Cyberbullying.    It’s important to understand them and to take any type of bullying seriously no matter how small you think the action or incident may be.

Here are just a few sites I recommend that also helped me as I was looking for advice on what to do as a parent to help my daughter in her situation….
